Workplace Violence Prevention Plan

Effective July 1, 2024, California law requires most employers to implement an effective workplace violence prevention plan (WVPP) either as part of their Injury & Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) or as a separate document.

Exceptions for the requirement apply to healthcare employers covered by another standard, remote employees working at a location not controlled by the employer, and worksites with fewer than 10 employees that are not open to the public.

Employer To Do’s by July 1:
1. Create a written workplace violence prevention plan (Note: Cal/OSHA requires employers to engage with employees in developing and implementing their WVPP). ✔Plan and Employee Notice/Input form included in MCAC templates.
2. Make it available to all employees. ✔Employee Notice included in MCAC templates.
3. Provide training on the plan initially and then annually thereafter. ✔Training deck included in MCAC templates.

Specific requirements include:

  • Recording incidents or threats in a violent incident log even if the incident did not result in injury. ✔ Violent Incident Log included in MCAC templates
  • Providing training to all employees; and maintaining records related to a workplace violence prevention plan.
    • Training Records – must be maintained for minimum of one year
    • Violent Incident Logs, Investigations, and Hazard Identification/Evaluation/Correction Records – must be maintained for a
      minimum of five years

Public Works Contractor Renewal

Currently registered public works contractors have until June 30 to renew their Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) registration for the next fiscal year which begins July 1, 2024. Renew online using DIR’s online public works contractor registration system.

Pubic Works Contractor Registration (PWCR) will be moving to a new platform.

Effective June 22, 2024, users of PWCR will need to register into the new system.
Tip: Renew before June 22 to use your existing credentials.

The new system is the result of a DIR website overhaul to streamline the user experience and integrate website services including:

  • Project Registration (PWC-100)
  • Public Works Contractor Registration (PWCR)
  • Certified Payroll Reporting (eCPR)

Training on the new system is highly recommended by DIR. Register below.

All contractors must be registered with DIR before bidding, being awarded, or performing work on California public works projects.

Mandatory Reporting of Workers Compensation Class Codes to
the Contractors State License Board (CSLB)

Effective July 1, 2024, contractors are required to provide their workers’ compensation classification code(s) on their license renewal form, as follows:

  • Report the three workers’ compensation classification codes for which the highest estimated payroll is reported on the policy, OR
  • Provide every classification code reported on the policy if you have fewer than three classification codes.

License renewal without the class code(s) is prohibited.

Portable Equipment Registration Program (PERP)
Important Deadlines for Portable Diesel Engines

Initial Registration Eligibility Deadline: July 1, 2024
Beginning July 1, 2024, new applications for initial registrations of diesel engines rated over 750 bhp into PERP, engines must meet one of the following engine eligibility requirements:

  • Final Tier 4, or
  • Interim Tier 4 flex engine, or
  • Tier 2 flex engine.

How can I tell what tier my engine is? The tier depends on the model year and horsepower rating of the engine. View the chart to determine your tier.
