Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP)

California Labor Code Section 6401.9 addresses workplace violence prevention.  In short, Employers must establish, implement, and maintain a written workplace violence prevention plan. The plan must involve employees, be specific to each work area, and cover hazard identification, employee participation, and coordination with other employers.  Employers also need to maintain a violent incident log for workplace violence incidents, and they must provide initial and annual training to employees on various aspects of workplace violence prevention, including the plan, definitions, reporting, hazards, corrective measures, the violent incident log, and an opportunity for questions and answers.

The workplace violence prevention plan documents are intended as a draft starting point for further discussion, and it is intended for use in only California.  Employers should carefully review and discuss these materials with counsel to tailor the materials and guidance to their particular situation.
